Hesperado is back...
Like the mysterious black smoke thing on the show Lost, the fickle Google God a few days ago, with not a shred of warning or explanation, yanked my blog off the Blogospheric Island -- and, just like the ingeniously disingenuous writers of that same show, brought my blog suddenly and inexplicably back to life again.
I'd somewhat taken for granted my Hesperado, such that I'd almost sometimes thought of it as a daily reminder of the tedium and nuisance of having to come up with a new essay in order to keep it going. With this recent experience these past few days, of the suddening vanishing of the fruit of four and a half years of literary and philosophical efforts, I no longer take this island for granted; but, like Adam at 4:01 pm on his last day in Eden, I will tend to look uncomfortably over my shoulder at every sound of the steps of Google in the cool of the day on the fallen leaves around me.
Update: I just got through copy-pasting my entire Hesperado blog going back to June of 2006, into a massive Word file numbering 1,079 pages. That file in turn I will of course also copy onto a flash drive; and a copy of that flash drive will be sent by courier to an ex-CIA agent currently sunning himself on the island of Malta, where he can store it in an old grappa bottle behind the 7th brick of the masonry of the chapel ruins a mile from his cottage. Okay, that last part I just made up.
