Interlude #11: What would you like to play when Islam ends?

I think this would do just dandy:

Thanks for the pleasant dreams Hesp. Unfortunately, probably not in my lifetime. But, in the meantime, I tell everyone I can – everyone down to infants. Maybe one day they’ll be able to enjoy this moment in the sun.

I agree Fiqh. Even if I were 20 years old right now and I had a long life ahead of me, I'd reasonably assume I would never see the end of Islam in my lifetime. (That's why I titled it "What would...")

P.S., I.e., while I think it's probable Islam will unravel and collapse, it's highly unlikely it will do so before say 70 to 100 years from now -- given the sheer numbers involved, their global dispersion, their ancient cultural longevity, and the degree of their fanaticism.

Hesp, luv ya, but I don’t share your confidence there. We have to up our game.

Maybe that sounded too harsh. I know you are a warrior in this field. Never mind me. I'm just really angry about Muslims.

Sorry.

I mean this in all seriousness: I defer to your vastly superior historical knowledge. This is one of the reasons I enjoy reading your blog. My background is Philosophy, but I’ve come to understand that Philosophy doesn’t mean jack unless you also know history. Thank you for helping me.

Fiqh,

Thanks, I appreciate it.

If your background is Philosophy, I hope you will read my next essay, which deals with my favorite philosopher, an underrated one, named Eric Voegelin. It will be part 2 of ab essay I wrote over a year ago. It might be a day or two before I have time to iron it out.
