The Bamiyan Buddhas carved into the sandstone cliff faces in the Hindu Kush, Afghanistan, dynamited by the Taliban with the help of Saudi and Pakistani engineers in March of 2001 (after previous attempts with howitzer cannons and grenades failed to bring them down).
