Hugh Fitzgerald is puzzled

"How the Left fell so hard for Islam is a puzzlement," says Hugh Fitzgerald in an essay published on Jihad Watch.

It's 2017 now, and Hugh is still puzzled by this?  There's no "puzzle" here.  The answer is simply this:

"Because Muslims are Brown People."

(For readers who expect or demand a more nuanced, complicated answer, or who might jump to conclusions because they haven't thought this matter through, I've posted the more detailed answer elsewhere.)

Aside from 'They are brown people', the other answer is that 'Islam has succeeded Communism (and Nazism before it) as the leading anti-US ideology, and that the Muslims are the single biggest potential block of anti-Americans, w/ close to 2B'. Leftists are primarily haters of the West, and Islam is the biggest anti Western ideology out there, thanks to its headcount.

The brown people is a secondary issue: brown or black people who are opposed to Muslims, be it in Myanmar or South Sudan don't get supported by the world Left. Their race doesn't help them here, b'cos there is nothing about these countries that is inherently anti-US which would make them a cause celeb, like Iran or Venezuela. In the meantime, even White Muslims, like the ones in Chechnya, Kosovo, Bosnia get supported, since they are persecuted by non-Muslim Serbs, who are not anti-Western (or at least weren't, until the US made them an enemy).

Yes, the "brown people" factor isn't the only factor at play; but it is a sine qua non to explain PC MC -- because PC MC with regard to islam isn't merely a Leftist phenomenon; it occurs on all points of the political spectrum and in people of all stations and backgrounds throughout the West, apparently the majority, including Ordinary People, and not just Dastardly Elites. I.e., if there were a movement of white Westerners who had pretty much the same ideological complex as Islam has and they were anti-West, they would only find sympathy from the hard Left, but that sympathy would not enjoy the widespread traction which Islam enjoys. The key ingredient for that dynamic is the perception that Muslims are brown people.

However, it's not entirely that simple, in that it involves a synergy between two factors:

1) Brown
2) Violent

The second factor has to be of a certain quantity and quality to make the dynamic work. What distinguishes Muslim Brown People from all other non-whites in this regard, is that no other non-white group even comes distantly within the outer limits of the ballpark to Islam, when it comes to the ever-present, and escalating, threats of violence.

I explicate all this in greater detail in the essay I linked in "Further Reading", on Lawrence Auster's "Law" of Majority-Minority Relations. Auster too was generalizing to all non-whites; he hadn't realized the uniqueness of the one "non-white" group, Muslims, in illustrating his "Law".
